Fusa (Joey Fusani)

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Fusa was born on July 8, 1998, and grew up in Lancaster, New York. He developed an interest in music at a young age and started rapping when he was a child. In 2014, Fusa met James Gilsdorf, a blues guitarist interested in producing hip hop music. The two began working together, recording their early tracks in Fusa's dining room using an old laptop, a blue snowball microphone, and free software.

In July 2017, Fusa released his first EP called "The Mixtape" on YouTube and SoundCloud. He recorded most of the tracks in his dining room with a used Electro-Voice RE20 microphone. This project helped him develop his style, where he put a unique twist on old-school Boombap hip-hop. In 2018, Fusa released his debut album "22", produced by James Gilsdorf. This album was a big deal for Fusa as it was his first release on Spotify. He and James both worked night shifts at KFC and recorded music after work.

On November 19, 2018, Fusa won first place for his performance of "Phuquitit" at Coast to Coast LIVE in Toronto, hosted by Sean Bang. Sean Bang was impressed with Fusa's performance and invited him to perform as a guest at another event in Rochester, New York. For the next leg of the competition, Fusa competed in Miami, Florida against 300 other artists from around the world.

In 2021, Fusa collaborated with beatmaker Connor D. to release an album called "Fusa x Connor D". The album was recorded at Sound Masters Records in Lockport, New York, and was released on all major streaming platforms. In this album, Fusa put his writing abilities to the test by working on a whole new style. Fusa has also worked with Motiks and is rumored to be working on a new song with him.

Fusa has been performing at various venues around Buffalo since 2021, including Stamps the Bar and Transit Music Lounge. He has collaborated with other local artists, including Kod!e, Motiks, Sebastn, and Sciandi.

In 2023, Fusa has been publishing new singles regularly, with "Hallelujah" being his most recent release. His upcoming single, "Comfort Food", is expected to be released in March 2023.

In addition to his music career, Fusa has also gained popularity on TikTok, where he showcases his rap skills and competes in "duet challenges". He has also submitted his music to the Tiny Desk Concert series.

Fusa draws inspiration from some of the greatest boom bap rappers in history, including Eminem, Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Logic, Joey Bada$$, Big L, Nas, Rakim, and Lil Wayne.

Personal Life

Fusa is known for his love and pride for Buffalo, where he grew up and continues to live. He balances his music career with his studies at Buffalo State University, where he graduated from in 2020 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
